Early-Career Scientist Travel Awards
Purpose
The Organizing Committee of the 2018 IUCr HP workshop in Honolulu will offer a limited number of travel awards for early-career scientists. These awards will provide funding to offset the cost of participation in the workshop.
Award
Awards will be based on scientific merit and financial need. Funds may be applied only to registration, travel, and accommodations for the 2018 Honolulu workshop. Each travel award will equal $1,000 and be processed as reimbursement after the submission of original expense receipts to the UH Office of Conference Services.
Eligibility
The awards are intended for scientists who have graduate student, postdoctoral, or early career (untenured) faculty appointments. A preference will be given to applicants presenting a talk or poster at the workshop. The 2018 Organizing Committee will oversee the application review and award selection.
Abstract submission is not a requirement for travel awards, but priority will be given to presenting authors. We encourage applicants to submit a presentation abstract before applying for the travel award.
Application Deadline
For consideration, all application materials must be received by the application close date of April 15, 2018. Late applications will not be considered.
Application Materials
To apply for the Early-Career Scientist Travel Award, please submit the following by email to Greg Finkelstein (gjfinkel@hawaii.edu):
- - A short biography for publication on the workshop website (100 words or less + photo)
- - A current CV, including a permanent address (in PDF format)
- - A letter of recommendation from a thesis or postdoctoral supervisor, including justification for the need of a travel award
Announcement of awards
Decisions about allocation of the travel awards will be reached by June 1, and will be communicated to selected via email.
